My First "How To" Blog Entry. A Gorgeous Bag in 30 Minutes!

Well here it is.  My first blog entry with instructions on how you can create something lovely.  Maybe for a little ones nappies and wipes for a quick dash to the shop, maybe some ballet shoes and a snack or maybe a bag for yourself to carry your lunch to work or maybe your favourite book on the train.  The possibilites are endless when it comes to uses and who really wouldn't love to carry around something so cute that you "made all by yourself".

The above photos show the steps involved and I will give you measurements here and instructions.  If you would like to purchase the fabric here cut out in strips ready to go you can by visiting our Craftumi store.  The link is https://www.craftumi.com.au/detail.asp?id=61196  Otherwise have a go at purchasing your own fabric and creating your own bag.  Maybe once you get started you will be making them for everyone in your house!

The measurement of the fabric required is 60cm x 38cm.
The two handles measure 52cm x 8cm.
I have used a cotton here that is thicker than the usual quilters cotton as it makes for a nicer, sturdier bag.

1.  Fold your fabric in half and sew up the bottom and one side leaving 1.5cm seam.  Zig zag edges if you wish.

2. Fold and press both edges of straps over 0.5cm and then over again in half as shown.

3. Sew them in place around 0.2cm from the edge catching both sides and inside hem.

4. Fold over and press top of bag 0.5cm and then 3cm again.  Iron in place.  Place your handles in place as to where you would like them and then pin and stitch in place making sure they match on both sides ie. in the same spot. They will need to be pinned around 0.5cm under the hem so as to be sure they are stitched in place when sewing.

5. Then sew in place with a row of stitching as shown in the photo to catch the handles in both places.

6. Turn your bag the right way out, give it a quick press and fill it with all the things that you love to take out with you on your outings.

7. Enjoy - you just made your own bag!

What a rainy day in the gorgeous Blue Mountains its been.  Time to catch up on a bit of craft and of course feed the washing into the dryer.  Annaliese and I have made a tissue pom pom which was super easy and looks just lovely in her room.  I'm sure you will agree.  I also made a skirt in black wool fabric and attached a flower from the same fabric.  I can't wait to wear it.  I feels so warm on.

We took the kids to the Sydney Brickshow yesterday at the Powerhouse Museum and the boys really seemed to enjoy it.  Annaliese wasn't as keen.  She enjoyed the Fashion and Lace exhibition which was really quite good too.  They also have movie memorabilia there from Narnia the movie and the kids thought that was pretty great too.

I am going to start a few tutorials soon which should be a bit of fun.  I was thinking of starting with a simple book bag.  It could also be used for a shopping bag or anything else you can think of.  I will get moving and have it up later in the week.  I am considering selling kits for everything I make via craftumi so you can follow the instructions on my blog and make your own.  Is this something you might like to see?  They will not be expensive but merely the cost to cover the items and my time to make up the kits. Please feel free to let me know if this might be something you think you might be interested in.  Remember I always like to hear what you would like to see from me.

Thats it for now.  I hope you all have a great week.

Nic.

Time to revive the Mulberry Road Blog

Well seeing though it has been 12 months since I have made an entry on my blog you are probably shocked to be hearing from me.  Facebook kind of took over after I started my page there and this blog was rather neglected.  Well, here we go on the come back trail...

With my children growing up so quickly and my youngest heading off to big school next year I am starting to feel a little out of touch with the baby world when it comes to creating new things for bubs. I have a gorgeous little nephew who is 9 months old that I really enjoy sewing for but the ideas are just not flowing like they used to.  Life is also so busy these days with four kids that time doesn't always allow for designing and sewing, as you can imagine.

With this in mind I thought I might lend my hand to blogging again.  So anyone who wants to share in my creative ideas, favourite recipes and general day to day stories I would love you to hear from you.  Feel free to share your links to your blog or store, stories or comments on my page. I would love to see what you love to do too.  Let me know what you might like to see from me.  I will be trying to blog often and I will share some how to's to make your own little creative items for your home or little ones.

I will share on my facebook page www.facebook.com.au/MulberryRoad when I have made an entry so be sure to come like us if you would like to keep up to date with whats going on at the little house down on Mulberry Road.

Until next time,  Nicole.

Rainy Days and Cookies

What a lovely day for sewing and baking. Thursday here in Sydney is rainy and just perfect for staying indoors. My little boys and I have made some smartie cookies which were just delicious. Nicholas has already had two and Samuel has gone for a nap very cross with me because I wouldn't let me keep eating them.

Sorry I have been so slack with the blogging but time just gets away from me and I'm afraid I have fallen into the trap of facebook and spend to much time updating it. I shall try to be a better blogger!

I have also updated my shop on madeit www.madeit.com.au/mulberryroad with some new skirts and shorts so take a look if you wish and see what I've been up to.

Best wishes to everybody, Nic.

New Skirts for Hide and Seek

I had such a busy day yesterday. I managed to make up six gorgeous skirts in various sizes mostly with Babushka Dolls (of course). They are made with thick quilters cotton in two layers so they are just beautiful and sit really nicely on. They will be for sale at the Hide and Seek Market in Kellyville on the 22nd of August.
There will also be many new stalls this month at the market with some stalls selling new and exciting things for mummy's too. It should be fun!! Hope to see you there.

Market Day at Hide and Seek

Mulberry Road is pleased to let you all know that we will be back at the Hide and Seek Market this month in Kellyville on Sunday the 22nd of August from 10am til 2pm. Hopefully I will see you there.

I will have some new things to show you including some newly designed bunting. I know quite a few of you asked for a bigger variety of bunting than I had on offer last month so I have started getting creative with some new designs. Some new cushions featuring little chicks will be there too. Looking forward to another great day at Hide and Seek. Regards, Nic.

What a wonderful day...

What a fantastic day we had today at the Hide and Seek Market Kellyville. It was lovely to meet everyone there today and a big thank you to all our visitors that popped in to say hi. A big thanks to my good friend Jo who helped me out on my stall today. You were amazing...thank you. Aloma from Hide and Seek has done a wonderful job putting together this fantastic market for the people of Kellyville. I'm sure we can all agree that she has done an amazing job. Thank you Aloma.

With our sales today I have decided to donate a percentage of profits to the Westmead Childrens Hospital. To all the people that purchased from Mulberry Road today you have made this possible and I thank you for that. I will be sending a cheque for $40 off to the Westmead Childrens Hospital this week.

Until next time, goodnight from a very tired Nic.

8 Sleeps to go...

With just one week until the Hide and Seek Market and having promised myself I had enough stock, I still keep having moments of creativity and today was no exception. I have decided to add some T shirts with gorgeous little vintage dogs on them and some of the popular blue floral chicks to our store. I will also have plenty of long sleeve designs on the day too. I have also made up some larger babushka chenille backed cushions which measure 40cm x 40cm, very nice for the babushka fan. Eight sleeps to go...

Getting ready for the Hide and Seek Market

I spent some time over the weekend having a play with my goodies and working out how I will be presenting my table at the Hide and Seek Market on Sunday the 25th in Kellyville. I had lots of fun and have realised that I have lots of stock and some new things to show off to you all. As this is Mulberry Road's first Babies and Childrens Market I have decided to offer many of my items at special prices so if you are local and you have something you just love from the range please stop by and grab a bargain. This photo is my sneak peek at my table.

I would love to see you there so if you get some time please pop by and visit all the talented ladies that have been busy creating some gorgeous things for the gorgeous little ones in our lives. I also look forward to meeting all the talented ladies myself. You can check out who will be at the market by visiting the hide and seek blog by clicking on the link on the side of my blog.

Best Wishes, Nic.
